PROCLAMATION NO. 373/2003

A PROCLAMATION TO ACCEDE THE CONVENTION FOR THE PROTECTION OF CULTURAL PROPERTY IN THE EVENT OF ARMED CONFLICT

            WHEREAS, it is found essential that Ethiopia Accede the convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict Signed  at Hague on the 14 day of May 1954;

WHEREAS, the said convention is found to be paramount importance in protecting the Ethiopian Cultural Heritage;

WHEREAS, the House of people’s Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has Accede said convention and its first protocol at its session held on the 28th  day of October, 2003;

          NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55 Sub Articles (1) and (12) of the constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, it is hereby proclaimed as follows:

1.       Short Title 

This Proclamation may be cited as “The Convention for the protection of Cultural Property in the event of Armed Conflict and its first protocol Accession Proclamation No. 373/2003.

2.       Accession of convention

The Convention for the protection of Cultural property in the event of armed conflict Signed at Hague on the 14th day of May 1954 is Acceded.

3.       Power of Authority for Research & Conservation of Cultural Heritage (ARCCH)

 

The Agency for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage is hereby empowered to under take all acts necessary of the implementation of the Convention and its first protocol in co-operation with concerned federal and regional government organs, Non-government organs as well as with Communities.

 

4.       Effective Date

 

          This Proclamation shall enter into force as of the 28th day of October,2003.
