ADDIS ABABA – The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced that 221 election constituencies have posted results from the total 440 constituencies where the elections were held.
Briefing the media yesterday, NEBE Communication Adviser Soliana Shimelis said that more than 50 percent of the 440 constituencies have posted results.
“Only 44 constituencies posted results in Amhara State due to transportation problems from the polling stations to the constituencies while 125 constituencies posted the results in Oromia State,” she said, adding that as the vote is still being counted in Addis Ababa and only 10 constituencies have announced the results. She further said that seven constituencies have already been certified so far for announcing the results.
The result posting process did not include Gambella and Sidama states where the election took an additional day though the constituencies in Gambella announced that they have just completed the counting, she added.
According to her, the act of counting the results at constituencies in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ State has been suspended due to the fact that a large number of complaints from some political parties. “The board will take administrative measures in two days to address the complaints,” she added.
