We, the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia:
Strongly committed, in full and free exercise of our right to self-determination, to building a political community founded on the rule of law and capable of ensuring a lasting peace, guaranteeing a democratic order, and advancing our economic and social development;
Firmly convinced that the fulfillment of this objective requires full respect of individual and people’s fundamental freedoms and rights, to live together on the basis of equality’ and without any sexual, religious or cultural discrimination;
Further convinced that by continuing to live with our rich ,and proud cultural legacies in territories we have long inhabited, have, through continuous interaction on various levels and forms of life,. built up common interests and have also contributed to the emergence of a common outlook;

Fully cognizant that our common destiny can best be served by rectifying historically unjust relationships and by further promoting our shared interests;
Convinced that to live as one economic community is necessary in order to create sustainable and mutually supportive conditions for ensuring respect for our rights and freedoms and for the collective promotion of our interests;
Determined to consolidate, as a lasting legacy, the peace and the prospect of a democratic order which our struggles and
sacrifices have brought about;
Have therefore adopted, on 8 December 1994 this Cons-titutionthroughrepresentativeswe haveduly elected for this purpose as an instrument that,binds us in a mutual commitment to fulfill the objectives and the principles set forth above.

  1. there is only free surrendering of freedom in the modern time……no one can force you……lacking freedom might have emanated from your interest…..

  3. The current Ethiopian constitution declared that the state of Ethiopia is structured in federal system based on cultural and language proximity (ethnic based). Article 46 of the constitution reads as follows;
    Member States of the F.D.R.E.
    1. The Federal Democratic Republic shall be comprised of States.
    2. The States shall be delimited on basis of the settlement patterns, identity,
    language and consent of the people concerned. Member States of the Federal In article 47, Democratic Republic of Ethiopia are the following:
    1. Tigray
    2. Afar
    3. Amara
    4. Oromia
    5. Somali
    6. Benshangul/Gumez8. Gambela
    7. Southern Nations, Nationalities & Peoples
    9. Harari People

    Hence, what about Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa City administration? Can the federal government directly rule over territory and peoples?
    According to article 49;
    1. Addis Ababa shall be the Capital city of the Federal Democratic Republic of
    2. The residents if Addis Ababa shall have a full measure of self-government. The
    Laws shall be enacted to that end.
    3. The Administration of Addis Ababa shall be responsible to the Federal Democratic
    Republic of Ethiopia.
    4. Residents of Addis Ababa shall be represented, in accordance with the provisions
    of the Constitution, in the Council of Peoples’ Representatives.
    5. The special interest of Oromia in Addis Ababa shall be respected in the provision
    of social services, the utilization of natural resources and in joint administrative
    matters arising from the location of Addis Ababa within Oromia State. The law shall
    specify the particulars.
    In sub-article 1 of article 49, what hinders Addis Ababa to not serve as the capital city of federal government if the city demonstration responsible to the one of the member states of the federation whose history is concerned. In sub-arctic 5, about special interest of the oromia region is also unclear.

    Particularly my question is that, how the Federal government can directly rule over territory and peoples.

  4. i partially agree there are some inequality in our religion in our country and even there is no freedom of expression and

    ( No country is exercising democracy perfectly )
